Key West Conchs jumped out to an early lead over Merritt Island and took home a 14-8 victory on Friday. Key West Conchs scored on a triple by Will Anderson in the first inning, a single by Michael Mayor in the second inning, a single by Anderson in the second inning, a single by Dane Black in the second inning, and a double by Brendan Roney in the second inning.
There was plenty of action on the basepaths as Key West Conchs collected 11 hits and Merritt Island had eight.
Key West Conchs pulled away for good with seven runs in the second inning. In the second Mayor singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs, Anderson singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, Black singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs, and Roney doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.
Antonio Knowles was credited with the victory for Key West Conchs. He lasted six innings, allowing six hits and six runs while striking out eight. Dale Michaud threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Collin Taulbee took the loss for Merritt Island. He went three innings, allowing ten runs on seven hits and striking out three.
Merritt Island mashed two home runs on the day. Mason Denaburg had a long ball in the first inning. Kyle Dentmon went deep in the first inning.
Key West Conchs tallied 11 hits. Anderson, Patrick Spencer, and Roney each racked up multiple hits for Key West Conchs. Roney, Spencer, and Anderson all had two hits to lead Key West Conchs.
Merritt Island totaled eight hits in the game. Joe Johnson, Denaburg, and Dentmon each had multiple hits for Merritt Island.
